My students need more copies of the next years Bluebonnet books. We usually only have 2 copies of each books and all 3rd - 5th graders have to share these books.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have some of the best students in McKinney even though they face many obstacles. Our campus is a Title I bilingual campus with over 80% of our students classified as economically disadvantaged. They deserve every opportunity to succeed and to be engaged in every part of their learning.
Student engagement is one of the many keys to us reaching our students and helping them fit into the ever-changing world they live in.
Our classrooms of today cannot continue to look like our classrooms of the past if we want our students to be problem solvers and use all the skills they need to be successful in the world they live in. Our spaces should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. We need to provide our students with choices so that they can be successful in their educational endeavors.
My Project
Each year we work really hard to get students in 3rd - 5th grades to participate in our Bluebonnet program. To do this, they must read at least 5 of the current year's books to get to vote on their favorite book in the state contest. Our PTO helps out each year in purchasing one or two copies of each title, but we only get a small donation from them and that does not go far when purchasing books. The problem is we usually only have 2 copies of each of the 20 books for the whole campus to share.
As you can imagine, there are many times when we do not even have one of the current year's book list on the shelves for students to choose from.
We would like to order additional copies of each book so that any student wanting to read a Bluebonnet book will have books left on the shelf to choose from.
