Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our community is predominately made up of disadvantaged scholars of Latin American decent in which English is their second language. We serve scholars Pre-K to 7th grade. 97.3% of which qualify for free or reduced lunch.
My 2nd grade scholars whom normally assistant their parents in translating at doctor visits or school conferences and whom regularly care for younger siblings without hesitation; unknowingly push through the hard knocks of their daily lives, as they enter their classroom.
Although my scholars are enriched by these everyday experiences, many of them find it difficult to see their strengths. School doesn’t come easy to many; my scholars need and seek meaningful experiences and interactions in which to flourish. My purpose is to build this place for them.
My Project
My scholars enrich our classroom and they require literature and educational experiences that are just as rich as they are. The books and materials that have been selected will not only work to bridge my scholars home acquired skills to the learning that occurs in our classroom; they will provide that our scholars gain a true love of learning. Our classroom needs to be inviting it needs to draw our students in; it needs to obtain books that are culturally relevant with high vocabulary, vivid pictures to bridge that vocabulary with their native language, games that will enhance their problem-solving skills as well as build community. I believe that with your support in purchasing these items my scholars will be able to harness their strengths and distribute them further to their family and community.
Books are few and far between in the homes of my scholars.
In our library, your contributions will help bridge our classroom and our scholars homes. My hope is to create a classroom library that will allow scholars to share their love for reading in their home lives as well as the classroom. I want our classroom library to extend far beyond our classroom walls; so that my scholars have choice to read at home for enjoyment instead of resorting to turning on the TV because of lack of options. My scholars and I thank you sincerely from the bottom of our hearts for your donations.
