I am a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district; my students (special education, general education, and gifted students) are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with a creative and meaningful learning experience.
My students are a group of inquisitive and creative third graders who approach life and new concepts enthusiastically.
Due to the lack of materials and equipment, my students sometimes are not able to put their fabulous ideas into action. My goal is to help each student reach their potential for learning and to help them grow academically. Each child in my classroom is different, and it can be challenging to adjust my learning plan to fit every student. To achieve this goal, I would like to create a functional environment that meets the learning style of every student in my class. I want to provide a place that is safe, healthy and comfortable to work and learn in that makes each student look forward to coming to class every day.
My Project
I want to help my students by providing them with more comfortable seating options in the classroom that can improve focus, thus improve their learning. We currently have flatten beanbags from years of wear, wooden stools and bouncy balls, which are amazing for my students.
This couch will add flexible seating for those students who do not necessarily need to stay in motion or seek out kinesthetic outputs.
The seating option will be specifically geared toward those who seek comfort and soothing, especially those with anxiety. It will be a great addition to our reading center in the classroom.
This couch will help soothe anxiety and make my classroom a comfortable place for each student despite behavior and/or learning abilities. My students deserve special tools and strategies that meet their individual learning needs.
