My Project
Many of the students I work with in my Title I elementary school come with special needs and special skills. Many of them come from lower socio-economic backgrounds. They are all part of our special education program. Many are English language learners and represent various global cultures. It's my job to provide tools to help them all participate in class as well as to work with them to increase their skills in fine and gross motor strength, coordination, visual motor skill, sensory processing, and emotional regulation. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, our students have had fewer opportunities and experiences to increase these skills in their homes and in their communities due to the disruption of the global pandemic. I'm hoping to even the playing field for my students! Many of the items on my Wishlist will allow students to be creative with designing their own creations and learning cause and effect, planning, and developing their ability to pursue a novel idea with support. Other items support core strength and emotional regulation by giving kids their own spot to sit comfortably in the classroom so they can focus on the lesson without working so hard to sit up and sit still.
