OSMOtize my PreK Room!

Help me give my students an iPad and an OSMO to include in our technology center! One hour a day, we have center time and, as our school is in its first year, we don’t have any tech.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Erika's classroom raised $692

My Students

I teach in a high-poverty, all-female and all-black public school/Head Start program. We use a project-based approach which lends itself very naturally to lots of experiments and field experiences as the context for learning critical pre-literacy, pre-math and social-emotional skills. This year, we are studying the natural environment (trees),

My students are fiercely curious and active four-year old girls learning in a single-sex classroom environment.

One of the most common questions I hear is, “How...”, which inevitably leads us into an experiment/investigation! Everyday is a joy with loads of learning and lots of laughter.

This year, we are studying the natural environment (trees), the built environment (buildings), the interaction between people and the natural and built environment (reduce, reuse, recycle), culture and art (through a clothing study), and physics and coding (through a balls study)

My Project

I chose an iPad and an OSMO. We will use the iPad for research, and the OSMO as a tool for learning literacy and math, as follows:

With an iPad, students will use technology to research information, and the OSMO has literacy and math games that are a hybrid of real-world and technology experience.

As such, these games provide a developmentally appropriate learning experience. I have a curated list of high quality apps as well, and students will be limited to 30 minute technology experiences per week.

My school does not have any tech available for our classroom, but our curriculum calls for a technology center! I would love to introduce these children to Ms. Google and Ms. Osmo!
