Help me give my students cell membrane and transport protein kits for modeling cellular transport!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Maggio's classroom raised $512
This project is fully funded
My Students
I teach at a specialized math and science high school in New York City. Students must take an entrance exam even though it is a public school. The students of my school are so inquisitive and have such a drive to learn. This is evident when looking at their full schedules and packed after-school activities. These are some of the best and brightest students in all of New York City, and they make going to work every day a JOY!
My Project
COVID dramatically altered the school experience for our nation's students. In NYC many students have been home for the last 16 months, learning only on the computer.
My goal for the 2021-2022 school year is to create as many hands-on, interactive activities as possible for the freshmen biology students to help them reintegrate back into school and practice the social skills lost during COVID!
This kit will allow student groups to discover the spontaneous formation of membranes by exploring the chemical structure of a phospholipid. They will work in teams to construct a phospholipid bilayer and consider the role of transport proteins in moving ions and small molecules across membranes.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
