OSMO Technology For Students With Autism

My students need an OSMO Genius Kit and OSMO games such as Coding Jam, Monster game, and Pizza Co. game.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Marber's classroom raised $667

My Students

Our class is comprised of 8 amazing students with autism across three grade levels who learn in many different ways. Our students come from different wards from within DC, not just from the surrounding neighborhood. Our class is a self-contained classroom, which means that the majority of each students' learning takes place within our room. Many of our students also receive some instruction in the general education setting and are able to interact and socialize with their typically developing peers throughout the day.

Autism is a developmental disability that affects the way our students interact and communicate with others.

Autism is a spectrum disorder and our students' skills and abilities fall all over the range of the spectrum. We have students who are approaching grade level academically as well as students who are not yet communicating verbally. Each of our students is unique and has their own strengths, gifts, and support needs. All of our students need support in the areas of communication, behavior, social interaction, and daily living skills.

My Project

We are requesting Osmo programs will help to inspire my students in new ways. They will be able to create, design, and think outside of the box. I know that these programs will help to supplement learning in my classroom.

Your generous donation will help us fund items that will help tell ignite curiosity in my 8 students with autism in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade.

The Osmo Genius Kit comes with different games such as Masterpiece, which allows students to draw their own pictures. Masterpiece would give my students the chance to draw their own math problems, to illustrate vocabulary words, or to show science concepts such as the water cycle. All of the students in my class have special needs and they benefit greatly from multiple ways to learn including visual and kinesthetic learning.

The Osmo Genius Kit also contains a game called Tangrams, which allows students to use different shapes to create pieces of art. For example, they may be shown a fox made with Tangrams and they have to replicate it. This helps students to learn about geometry and mathematical concepts while also creating their own art.

My students learn through hands-on tasks and being able to manipulate educational materials. It is my goal to have more STEM opportunities provided in my classroom to my students. With these materials, my students would truly benefit from this unique chance to create art, while also learning about STEM concepts.
