Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are wonderful! Every day is different and a great learning experience. My students are a joy to teach and are always eager to learn. However, they love to explore and interact with each other and thus, learn from each other.
Our school is a Title I school and is located in a low socioeconomic area.
All of my students qualify for free breakfast, as well as lunch. However, as soon as they walk into my classroom, they leave their hardships at the door and they are ready to learn!
My Project
Empowering students is one thing I truly aim for each and everyday. STEM is a great opportunity and a great investment to give that knowledge to my students. And as we know, an investment in knowledge pays the best interest. I want to be able to give my dual language students this great opportunity to show the world that they themselves can do it. Nestled away in Central El Paso, you will find Moreno Elementary School where 92% of students are socioeconomic disadvantaged, 53% of students are English Language Learners, and 69% of students are at risk.
With this project, my students would be given the opportunity to learn about the world of STEM; to build knowledge and excitement about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
With these Ozmo kits, my students would actively engage in higher thinking while building a bridge across all language barriers. Science and Mathematics is universal and these materials would be the gateway to their future. My English language learners deserve the best and the IF/THEN collection truly will inspire them to see "their kind of people" succeeding in world wide STEM careers.
