My Students
"Let's inspire them to do their best, because in their lives, we may be the only ones who have the power to do so." - C. Everett Koop This quote describes what I try to do for my students each and every day. I create children who are problem solvers who are prepared for the 21st Century.
Our school is a Title 1 school with over 90% of scholars qualifying for free and reduced priced lunch.
My scholars are all identified as Talented and Gifted in creative thinking, cognitive ability, language arts or math. They come from a rural community in Ohio that does not always have the resources to provide the most in-depth, real world experiences and as a result our test scores drop yearly! My scholars and I refuse to allow anything to hold us back from accomplishing great things. I want to instill a love for education that will open new doors for my scholars.
My Project
Osmo Gaming Systems are hands-on learning tools that teach creativity, problem solving, and coding using the iPad. Children can see their code, drawings, numbers and words come to life in a real-world, hands-on way that engages them fully in the concepts they are learning about. As technology becomes increasingly more prevalent in students’ lives, understanding computer programming concepts is becoming very important for students’ success. Students will work in small groups to develop their collaboration and communication abilities as they learn valuable 21st century skills. The interactive pieces of the Osmo Gaming System are just what we have been looking for to add to our classroom to ignite student learning and critical thinking skills! These materials will allow students to guide their own learning while the Osmo systems will check their work along the way!
The usage of the Osmo Gaming System will help student to build and enhance working relationships with other students as they work as a team to complete tasks and troubleshoot ideas.
My students should be able to experience coding and have an early opportunity to envision themselves in a STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) career. The excitement of the students to begin their own adventures in learning despite the lack of resources in their school will change their lives forever.
