My students need a wide variety of 22 origami books to create an origami learning library and the paper to create them.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It is amazing to see how simple, various tools can spark a fire of passion in my students. The various origami pieces I have on my desk have caused them to ask, inquire, and learn from them over the years.
I teach Biology in an inner city public school where over 50% of students qualify for free and reduced-price lunches.
There are no funds to purchase basic supplies and I've had great difficulty in delivering a rigorous, college-prep curriculum. Daily life itself is often a challenge for many students, so textbook learning due to lack of materials only adds to their disenchantment.
My Project
I've seen the most withdrawn students suddenly bloom when they've summoned the courage to ask me about the origami on my desk, and then learn the patience and skill required to create the intricate designs. While not a magic cure for my entire class, the students who discover origami find that the skills required to carefully fold and refold paper are the same ones needed for academic success. By learning how to turn paper into beautiful objects, they also learn patience, and the importance of repeated effort, the same essential skills needed to be successful in scientific lab experimentation.
Your donation will create an origami library to provide my students with the books needed to continue their passion which has exhausted my small personal collection of books.
I have also requested a small quantity of paper, to provided novices with an easy introduction to this ancient art. While the paper won't last long, the books will continue to provide year after year of students with a valuable learning opportunity.
