My students need an independent work station to get to work quickly, in order to improve their reading skills.

I teach about 75 eighth grade students that have reading levels ranging from third grade to above high school. My school has a 95% poverty rate and all students eat breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner at school.
During small group reading instruction known as Guided Reading, I can become like an Ogre, reminding students to get their assignments and watch their time limits. I should be working with a group of 4 to 6 students on specific needed skills and not growling at the other students reminding them to work independently on skill based material at their instructional level. Unfortunately I do not have a well organized system for the students to obtain the appropriate independent work. The system I have tried to tweak numerous times produces conversation and this wastes precious instructional and independent work time.
In order to assist my students in reaching their personal reading best I need an organizing system that will allow me to customize the students' independent learning folders, thereby enhancing their skills. Having a specific filing cart with a color coded leveled folder will let the student get their folder and get to work in a timely fashion. A place to put previously completed work needs to be assessable to the students and parents so they can monitor progress along with me so we can work together as a team.
Your support will allow me to be less of an Ogre and more of a guide on the path teaching my students that they are in control of their education. Students want to be successful and reach their greatest potential. Utilizing an organized independent work station will allow students to go directly to their file and pull their independent work so they can achieve greater strides in reading. This will improve the reading gap and their knowledge.
