The one thing I love most about my students is when they have that "ah ha" moment. That very moment when the concept being taught becomes clear and they are able to build their own understanding of it. Their eyes brighten and an enormous smile washes over their face that they become empowered and motivated to do more.
That confidence that may not have been there before has now taken off!
They become more engaged...hungry for more opportunities to expand their understanding. They engage in mentoring their peers who may not have had that "ah ha" moment yet, and thrive in creating an atmosphere where they are driving the learning experiences.
My Project
As an AVID teacher, I am trying to build a strong AVID culture throughout our 5th grade. In order to do so, we must ensure that all of our students start off the school year having the supplies they need to be successful.
Having an AVID binder ensures students have the supplies they will need to strengthen those 21st century skills.
Being on a team of AVID teachers, I have come to appreciate all AVID has to offer our young scholars. Purchasing these supplies is challenging for the families that we serve, and the 5th grade team not only wants to support our students, but their families as well by offering this gift at the beginning of the school year to every 5th grade student. My goal for the 2021-2022 school year is to ensure that every 5th grader has what they need to be successful in an AVID classroom. By achieving this goal, we will be setting the tone for the school year and start students off with developing those 21st Century skills that will lead to their success.
