Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a special education classroom called a BSC Class. It is a classroom to support challenging behaviors due to an emotional disturbance.

My students are all grade levels, but we are a very close group since we spend a great deal of our time managing our emotions and learning ways to cope.

Unfortunately my kiddos can sometimes be viewed in a negative way by other teachers and kids in the school. Sometimes people don't understand us. I try to make my classroom a safe and loving environment for them to feel at ease. They all have beautiful hearts and are filled with wonder and passion. My goals are always to help them focus their passion in a positive way, and I hope we can get help with that this year.

My Project

My students are special education students that have behavioral issues that stem from cluttered minds and confusion. They struggle with finding ways to organize their thoughts and emotions. I'm asking for these binders to help them learn how to manage their time, their work and their own lives. I want them to learn ways to make their lives easier, so when those difficult moments happen, they can pick up and get back on track with a little more ease.

My students can sometimes find themselves losing control.

They throw things, scream and sometimes try to lash out on others. There are no quick fixes or miracle cures. My goals are for them to find ways to self regulate and independently stay focused on who they really are. Who they really are, are kids with enormous hearts that have these enormous emotions sometimes. I want them to always know that they are enough, they are smart enough, strong enough and in control. I need these binders as one more simple way to help them gain control over their own success.
