Organizing Our Math Minds

My students need Sterilite latching-lid containers to organize math materials, activities, and games we use in our classroom so they can easily find what they need and focus on the math at hand.

My Students

My students value experiences that are relevant, enjoyable, and engaging but face many social, emotional, and economic challenges.

Many of my students come into my classroom at the beginning of the year lacking confidence in their own thinking abilities, yet hold a desire to better themselves through enjoyable and relevant experiences.

Many have recently come to the United States fleeing intolerance or other hardships in their home country, and are now learning to live in a very diverse community. Others come from low-income households, foster homes, difficult situations at home, and even homelessness.

They are at all different academic levels - some learning English as a brand new language, some with little or no formal education prior to this school year, and others who are native English speakers who have been in school since Kinder. One thing that they all have in common is that they all need the right love and guidance to help them push themselves to realize and actualize their potentials and their dreams.

My Project

These Sterilite latching-lid containers will help my students and myself to stay organized in the classroom. The small containers will hold different items needed throughout the school day and the school year including calculators, paper, scissors, dry-erase markers, pencils, and erasers. The other sizes will hold student and group sets of math manipulatives (such as snap cubes, dice, cards, and base-ten blocks) for individual and group use.

Students will become responsible for their supplies with this organization and will easily be able to find what they need so they can focus on the math at hand.

Each pair of students will be in responsible for their materials within the containers, which will teach responsibility as well as organizational skills. They will also always know exactly where to find their materials and manipulatives, so they will spend less time searching for them and more time persevering and thinking through the math.
