Organizing Our Classroom

My Students

My students are an amazing group of third graders. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth-grade school located in rural California. It houses 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.

Our school has a strong academic culture.

I want to maintain our strength in this area by continuing to provide materials to enrich my students' experiences.

My Project

My students need book storage bins and paper trays to use for book displays and classroom paper organization.

Our school had a fire over a year ago.

Our classroom is in a temporary portable, which doesn't have enough shelving. We are supposed to move into our new building after Christmas. Our current issue is that we have had a lot of books donated to us after the fire. We don't have any way to display them beyond the two library carts that were purchased. I am requesting book storage/display bins so my students can have easy access to books. I plan to store the books by theme and level so students have easy access to the books. I have also found that if students don't have easy access, they won't take the time to look for a book. Having better storage and displays for the books will allow my students to see the books so they can make better choices in selecting a book.

The paper storage trays will be used to keep our room organized. They will be used to turn in homework, as a place for paper and as tool to keep students' work areas organized.

All of these bins and trays will make the classroom environment organized and inviting.
