My Students
Having open Communication with my student's family is a top priority in my school. My O.W.L. Binder (Organized Weekly Learning Binder) helps me do that.
Our school is in the heart of East Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY.
The school includes students from Pre-k to eighth grade, and it is a melting pot of descendants from the West Indies. The school is in a high poverty area and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch. There are 18 energetic, three and four-year-old children in my class, but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts.
My Project
The binders, binder pockets, highlighters, dividers and label maker will be used to create O.W.L. binders to help me keep my student's families informed about what is going on in school. These binders have important information like school calendars and contact information. There is also a section for the parents to write notes to me and for me to respond. The students will use these notebooks to store their homework and reading logs.
Making sure the families are connected to what their child is doing in school will help them take an active role in their education.
With their help we can work together to help the students succeed in school.
