Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a loving, energetic group of high school students at an urban school in the heart of Manhattan. Many are English Language Learners or have special needs, and all have a drive for learning and doing their best in school.

My students this year are 9th graders who are returning to my in-person mathematics classes after being fully remote for 18 months, and are now going to be adjusting to the new norms that come with the changes from the pandemic.

Through the challenges of remote learning, these students have stayed so positive, worked so hard, and are trying their best to appreciate school and take their education seriously. They have remained resilient and positive, and continue to exceed my expectations and make me proud.

My Project

After returning from remote learning over the past two years, I transitioned into a brand new school. Living in the city and not having a car means I could only bring with me the supplies I could carry. This meant that many of my larger organizational bins, cabinets, etc. had to be left behind as I moved into my new school space.

This project will help me acquire a set of organizational drawers, paper trays, and desk drawer dividers to finally be able to organize my supplies in a way that makes the most sense to help my students.

I am a firm believer that students pick up on the organizational habits of the their teachers and classroom, and these supplies will help me to create an environment that really fosters these life skills and brings out the best in my students.
