My students need chair pockets and pencil pouches. This will allow the class to use tables instead of desks.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a center based classroom. For reading I run daily 5 centers, I have writer's workshop where students rotate through centers, and then have guided math groups. I have a class where I encourage independence and group work.
I teach in a high poverty school with the majority of my students being English Learners.
My class is a diverse group, I have a wide range of abilities. I have students learning at a first grade level up to end of third grade reading/math levels. Since I have a diverse group of learners, centers have been the most effective teaching method for my class. That way I can provide individualized learning based on students needs. I also have a busy class where they need frequent movement and change. Having centers where students are able to rotate through groups has helped minimize behavior problems in the classroom.
My Project
The chair pockets will allow me to switch from desks to tables. Since we have centers, we move around frequently and currently students will need to get into their desks and will interrupt the learning of others. Having chair pockets and pencil pouches will give students the opportunity to have constant access to their materials without disrupting the learning of others. Also currently students will have to stop the learning process to get a pencil or materials, with pencil pouches they can bring them with them and always have their supplies on hand. This will help the facilitation of groups and give students the ability to self manage and have access to their materials without minimal disruption.
The chair pockets and pencil pouches will help minimize learning disruptions in the classroom.
Students will be able to keep their materials organized, have easy access to them, and keep distractions at a minimal. Currently students are distracted by students opening desks, sorting through their desks especially when we are working whole group and centers, this will help increase student focus.
