My Students
The students in my classes are a diverse group, from a multitude of backgrounds. Some are from families where they will be the first to attend college, while others are from families where paying the monthly bills is a challenge.
All students deserve an opportunity to create skills that they can take with them into the work force or to college.
They are eager for life skills that can help them, as they finish high school and move forward in their lives.
My Project
I believe in students making the classroom their own. They want a desk organizer for turning in their papers; this is not something we have used, but they want a set station for turning in work. The students also want a set of fun pens for our self-grading station. I have students self-grade as many of their assignments and assessments as they can, because they benefit from receiving the immediate feedback.
I have been working with them to re-design the classroom space to make it work better for them.
They also requested table-top notepads for small group work. They felt they were easier to work with. The wall calendar will allow us to see the whole semester at one time. Students and I can add important dates and information to keep us on track and to work around other things going on in the students' lives. Finally, they loved the task-card boxes, that I purchased through another project, so much, that they asked for more to store vocabulary cards.
