Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The items in this project will make a difference in my small group teaching by providing organizational tools that maintains students' work. We try our best in class to use book bins and binder clips to hold pages together. There are six children in my small group that meets three days a week. These students need designated time in the mornings for reading and math interventions. We sit in the back of the classroom while the rest of the students are working independently.
I strongly believe that if a classroom environment is organized and easily accessible for students then their sense of autonomy develops sooner and they are eager to take control of their learning.
For now, we have workbook copies that are being held in place by binder clips. It's not so simple for my first graders to manipulate when working. My teaching materials, like guides and index cards, are in a separate book bin on top of big chairs and on the floor due to limited spacing.
If this project gets funded, I can create a space in the back corner where we already meet. Student and teacher materials will be accessible for all.
