This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the gym. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things exciting in physical education.

My students are eager to learn new physical activities and sports.

They are very energetic and eager to participate in all types of sports and activities.

They like to move, they are eager to learn and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the gym, I focus on their potential and growth. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during their time in physical education.

My Project

Playing music is a fun way to introduce new and exciting activities in Physical Education. The students love hearing the music play during warm up exercises each day. It is a great way of getting them to participate and to enjoy themselves. We also would like to be able to play CD's that have awesome health lessons. The stereo will be used in many different ways in our class.

The equipment cart will help us move equipment out of the equipment closet and gym more efficiently.

It will also helps us be more organized with all of our equipment. It will help the students understand how to put up the equipment in a very organized manner. It also teaches them to respect and take care of the equipment that we have in our physical education program.
