Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This school year, my classroom consists of twenty-two, incredible first graders who come in every single morning excited about learning, and can't wait to see what is in store for them. The students in my school district come from a very diverse variety of backgrounds and cultures. Of my students, I have nine English Language Learners in my classroom, as well as seventeen students who have open Response to Intervention (RTI) files. Our classroom is a community where students respect each other, the materials and resources in the classroom. Three-quarters of our school's population qualifies for free or reduced cost lunch.
During the school day, every minute is so important, especially as we are trying to make up for the learning loss due to COVID.
When my students are organized, they don't lose instructional time looking for materials. They are ready to learn!
My Project
My students and I were lucky enough to receive a new phonics program. This new program will make us better readers and writers. The new program comes with a white board, magnetic letter board, a composition book and a notebook. We are so fortunate to have these individual, hands-on materials. We just have one small problem; we have no way to organize them! These bins will allow these fabulous materials to be organized and easily accessible for my first graders. Every minute counts every day, so it is important for my students to be able to quickly access their materials.
