Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Kindergarten classroom is always a busy place of learning. My students have many materials they use each day. But, because we are a Kindergarten class, we do not have desks; we have tables. I would like my students to have chair pockets to hold, and give easy access to, all of their materials.

My students come from all types of backgrounds and cultures.

We live next to an Air Force base, so we see many kids come and go with their military families. My students work hard, play hard, and love going to school. My school itself does not have money for extras like organizational materials. Anything I need for my classroom for organization is purchased by me. I would like my students to have their own personal space within the classroom, giving them a sense of belonging as well as giving them a fun place to learn each and every day.

My Project

Chair pockets are nylon pockets that strap to the back of a chair that can hold books, journals, and even pencils and crayons. My students will be able to place their own chair pocket, with their name on it, on their chair. They will have access to their journals, math workbooks, and reading book. These chair pockets will help save instructional time, as well, because I will not have to pass out these materials several times a day. Students will be able to learn personal responsibility by keeping all of their materials with them. Chair pockets would be a wonderful addition to our class.

Having chair pockets in our classroom will help our classroom run more smoothly.

As a Kindergarten teacher, every second counts. I only have a certain amount of time to get my kids reading. Teaching them how to learn makes learning a lot easier for them and for me. These chair pockets will aide in my classroom organization for sure.
