Organizational Tools to Help Create Independent Readers
My students need the 10-drawer organizer, pocket charts, and sheet pockets for "Daily 5" organization. They need 28 shelf file boxes to organize books on their individual levels.

My Students
My kindergartners bounce into the classroom each morning with smiles on their faces and eagerness to learn. I love reading aloud to my students. They love having stories read to them, but they love it even more when they are the ones reading to me!
I am the teacher of a classroom of beautiful kindergartners!
The students I am privileged to spend my day with LOVE to read! They practically devour non-fiction books and we love the Magic Tree House series. My kiddos are full of energy and creativity! They come to school and they are excited to learn!
Some of my kiddos are prepared for kindergarten, and some lack the skills needed to become a successful independent reader. Since their knowledge and skills are not the same, it is important to provide differentiated teaching opportunities and books that are specific to their individual level.
Our school is located in a rural area and we are a high-poverty school district. Unfortunately, funding for extra items in the classroom is limited.
My Project
As I plan to begin using "The Daily Five" literacy model in my classroom, I believe that organization will be key to my students' success. By having supplies organized and readily available for them, I will be creating an environment conducive to learning.
The Daily 5 is a series of literacy tasks which my students complete daily while I meet with small groups or work with individuals. The Daily 5 is a structure that will help students develop the daily habits of reading, writing and working with peers that will lead to a lifetime of independent literacy.
The ten drawer mobile organization cart will be used to organize the different stations during our Daily 5 time. This cart will allow us to be organized, therefore more efficient with our time. We also need dry erase pockets and pocket chart squares.
Each student will have their own book basket that will have books at their current reading level. I want my students to feel successful when reading independently and also feel confident when reading to a partner, teacher, or parent.
When students leave my classroom, I want them to be able to remember their positive experiences with books.
I want them to be self-confident when reading and I want them to enjoy reading.
Please consider contributing to this project.
