My Students

This year, I am working with a great bunch of 1st graders! In my class, I have 27 of the brightest and best (at least I think so)! They come to school hungry, looking for a safe environment to be themselves. Our school provides breakfast and lunch to our children.

My students and I have created a safe, engaging, homelike environment for us to learn and grow together.

We will use this time together for not only them to grow as students, soaking in information, reaching their goals and moving on to the next grade, but also for me to grow as a teacher.

That's where DonorChoose comes in. My students are from Detroit. Not everyone can buy school supplies, and our school is fairly new. We don't have all of the materials that well established schools have.

My Project

The students I work with strive for greatness daily. We have built an engaging classroom. Now we need help organizing our classroom! Our current blue mailboxes are falling apart, they are a hand-me-down, leftover from years prior. My students need the mailboxes to help keep their papers that need to go home sorted. We need the sturdier mailboxes for organizing work that is not finished, needs to be turned in, and keeping painting activities out of the way to dry. We need the drawer organizer to sort centers activities in both Math & Reading, and to create some independence. If we have the drawers, I can put all centers activities for the week in the drawers. Then as the children finish one assignment, they will know exactly where to go to get their next assignment/project. Having these organizational items will create an air of independence, which will also boost their confidence skills.
