This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students in Algebra I are often experiencing their first math class in high school, and to make it even more daunting, they have to pass the Regents Exam at the end of the year. My students struggle to keep themselves organized, as they haven't yet developed a system for keeping their notes and projects accessible so they can refer back to them to study. Their notes are long gone by the time they need them to study for the unit test, and often even by the end of the day!
Utilization of a binder will help all of my students develop the executive functioning skills that they need to organize for success in high school.
Additionally, for my students with IEPs, a binder will provide a structure with which they can make sense of their learning.
With these binders, students will be organized from the minute they walk into my classroom! This will allow them to take more ownership of their learning and develop study and learning systems that work best for them. It will also provide a window into their year that they can look back on and feel proud.
