I have 25 Kindergarten students in my classroom. Of those 25 students, 15 speak English as their second language. I was nervous to begin the year not knowing the full extent of their language abilities. What do they know in English beginning school? Will they be able to communicate with me? Most of all how am I going to help all of my students grow?! After two weeks of getting to know everyone I knew this would be a great year. I have never had a harder working group of 5 and 6 year olds. They surprised me and continue to show me each day they are eager and excited to learn and have been making great progress in the classroom.
My Project
25 students actively learning in different areas of the room with multiple different learning centers. It is time to clean up and move on to lunch, but that can't be done quickly and efficiently because everyone is putting materials on top of one shelf in a jumbled mess. While students are at lunch or specials time the teacher spends their time organizing all the supplies back in order, not efficiently using that precious time to plan and assess student growth and areas of weakness.
Organization is the key to success.
With proper organization, centers can be used and cleaned efficiently. Students can get to supplies when needed and teachers can spend their free time working on important tasks rather than organizing materials back into place.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
