"Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up."
A. A. Milne
Have you ever been sitting at a desk and papers and books fall out on your lap? We are a fourth grade class that needs a place to put our papers to show our parents what we do.
My fourth graders are typical 9 and 10 year old kids.
They think about the end of the day when they can go home and relax, get out of their school dress code clothes and play. They do not think about how they can make their desks cleaner or what their parents would like to see. We do a lot of work in the classroom, and we get a lot of papers back that are graded. When we clean out their desk I see papers that have been graded and papers that are not graded that should have been turned in. This effects their grades and sends their parents into a frenzy trying to get their grades up by the end of the term.
My Project
These bookcases will allow me as a teacher to have a place to put student work that has been graded so that the students can grab it on the way out the door and deliver it to their parents, walking in the door with bright and shining faces. This will alleviate much stress in our lives. The parents will know what has been graded and the students will stop stuffing papers into their desks, papers that will just end up in the garbage can at the end of the week.
This bookcase will improve our lives in the classroom by reducing clutter in the classroom.
With the reduction of papers in our desk we can concentrate more on the work at hand instead of tearing the papers about and making origami.
