Students with autism struggle with organization. Having a classroom in which materials are organized and can be accessed readily can make a task much less complicated for a student with Autism.
Our class is AMAZING, every day the students surprise us.
Our classroom consists of six children, in a Title 1 school, all with varying degrees of Autism. Each student is so unique. We celebrate each child's differences in our classroom. We are so proud of each child's accomplishments!
My Project
Students with autism struggle completing tasks in which they have to search for materials, compete the task and clean up. To complete these steps successfully they need an area in their classroom in which materials can be organized and easy to access to help foster their independence. A shelving unit such as this will be labeled with pictures of materials and this will in turn help the students find the appropriate materials, complete the task and clean up with less difficulty.
This project is so important, because finding pieces of furniture that meet the needs of our students in the typical elementary school can be very hard.
These uniquely designed pieces that focus on organization would help our students be much more successful and independent.
