This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My freshmen are in need of binders to help organize their notes so that their notes are useful to them. Too often, a quick glance in the backpack of a high school student is a jumbled mess of papers. By ensuring that students have binders, we are helping to keep them organized; a vital life skill.

I teach is a diverse student group with a lot of school spirit and some big dreams.

Getting off on the right foot in freshmen math (Algebra 1) is a great start for our future doctors, lawyers, and leaders. My students come from all types of backgrounds and areas of the country and world. They bring with them many real-world experiences, but many of my students also move often. Those frequent moves often result in notes and papers being misplaced or forgotten.

My Project

I have requested 32 binders to help keep my Algebra 1 students organized. They are responsible for their own notes in high school, and they need to be able to review concepts! We are trying to instill independence in our students. Teaching them to look back in their notes and investigate the answer themselves before asking for assistance from a peer or teacher is a great first step. However, if notes are lost or illegible from being shoved to the bottom of the backpack, they're not much help! A dedicated math binder will help our students immensely.

My students are trying very hard.

The gains our school has made in the last four years are amazing - mind boggling. And, each year, we're making more changes to continue the gains. Being able to spend more time on instruction, instead of searching for notes and handouts is an easy way to maximize instruction.
