My students need one stand to transport a xylophone during music class and they need mallets to play the xylophone.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Farrand's classroom raised $207

My Students
Help save my young music students the strain of having to lift and carry Orff xylophones across the room every time we play them in class. We have received several large xylophones through the generosity of numerous DC donors, but we have no rolling carts to put them on and don’t have enough mallets!
I teach general music to students in pre K to grades 8 at 2 public schools in metropolitan Illinois.
The school for which this project is intended is attended by students with a poverty rate of approximately 85%. The school has no attendance boundaries, rather it attracts students from around the city due to it's reputation of high academic standards as well as it's programs for students with special needs. The demographics of the student body are primarily Hispanic.
My Project
In music classes, students in grades K- 4 use the xylophones while participating in Orff activities such as chanting, singing, and dancing while other students perform a musical accompaniment on the xylophones and other classroom instruments. The xylophones allow students to play and create musical compositions that are aesthetically pleasing immediately, while being developmentally appropriate skills for children to learn. They are also fun instruments to play and pretty to listen to! Using the xylophones, students learn skills of musical composition, musical form, and instrumental technique. Students also learn skills of dance composition, practice locomotor skills, and integrate dance and music into a complete movement piece in the classroom.
Our only challenge is that we have no rolling carts to put the xylophones on, so students and I are forced to carry the large and delicate xylophones from a shelf to the floor when it is time to play them.
Your donation is integral to this project, it will prevent any possible accidents where an instrument may accidentally be dropped and broken.
If we had rolling carts, the instrument could safely be moved with no risk of damage. Our music room is too small for instruments to be permanently stored on the floor, we need the space for class activities. With a rolling cart the instruments could be rolled to a safe location when not in use, and rolled out again when it's time to make music! Thank you!
