My Project
This compact diatonic soprano xylophone is just the beginning of an Orff instrument collection at Amelia Street School!
Students attend this alternative therapeutic school to remediate their behavior by healing from trauma and learning to regulate big emotions or to receive specialized instruction for their severe disability.
These students LOVE music and are brimming with natural musical talent, I often need to remind myself to get out of their way! With this xylophone, they will not only learn melodic and harmonic concepts, but also improvisation skills, and most importantly, play together in an ensemble, which deepens our music-making community! All our students will benefit: the compact nature of this xylophone allows it to sit nicely on a wheelchair desk, as well as playing it from the floor. On a logistical note, it is stackable and packs away easily in our classroom which houses both music and P.E.!
Amelia Street students are talented and enthusiastic about music! It's time they have access to an instrument collection that is on par with schools across the district! This xylophone is just the beginning of a larger Orff instrument collection, so please donate and send us Orff, Orff, and Away!
