Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love dancing, singing, songwriting and making music whenever they can. Playing xylophones and glockenspiels allows students to better conceptualize melody, harmony, and rhythm in a comprehensive manner. Our Music program is beginning the journey of building a collection of Orff instruments so our students can be provided pathways to become well rounded vocalists, composers, improvisers, percussionists and pianists.
These instruments allow students to sequence Music into smaller chunks with 5 note pentatonic scales that are pleasing to the ear, enhance understanding of Music literacy and unlock exciting creative pathways for the mind.
These instruments can easily be set up with a partner allowing students to enjoy and help each other make Music together or be passed around in a circle to allow for whole class discovery. Orff is all about play, singing, dancing, creating and storytelling. Students will learn to play ostinatos, melodies, and make original works of art. My students will be thrilled to have access to xylophones and glockenspiels to continue to make memorable Musical experiences in our class.
