This project will supply our classroom library with book titles for the Oregon Battle of the Books competition. The battles are organized in a fun, yet competitive trivia format where all students can participate regardless of their reading ability.
Most importantly, these books will inspire cooperative learning and teamwork while fostering both a love of learning and a desire for academic excellence.
They will be used to expose my students to quality literature representing a variety of literary genres, styles, and viewpoints. They will also help broaden my students’ reading interests and increase reading comprehension.
Additionally, these books will encourage my 5th graders to see the world through different lenses by exposing them to different emotions, experiences, and environments. They will build empathy and awareness, and help them grow in their ongoing understanding of other cultures, diversity, and inclusion. Finally, they will encourage individual and group understanding of complex issues.
