This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) competition fosters a love of reading and critical thinking skills among students, but our current selection of reading materials is insufficient to fully engage participants and reflect diverse perspectives. To enhance our program, we seek funding to acquire specific titles that align with the competition's goals and challenge students intellectually. These books not only meet OBOB guidelines but also address themes of diversity, inclusion, and social justice, encouraging students to think critically about the world around them. By providing access to a more varied and representative library, we can inspire a greater passion for reading and deepen students' understanding of different cultures and experiences.
Moreover, investing in these specific reading books will strengthen our community's participation in OBOB and improve students' performance.
With an expanded selection, we can better prepare students for the competition, fostering teamwork, collaboration, and healthy competition among peers. Research shows that exposure to diverse literature enhances empathy and comprehension skills, ultimately enriching the educational experience. By supporting this initiative, you will not only help us equip our students with essential reading materials but also contribute to cultivating a more literate, empathetic, and engaged future generation.
