My Students
My students come from various backgrounds, cultures, and countries. Some of the students from other countries came to America within the last year and are still learning our culture, language, and school environment. Most of them are new to music, but, still, they share an interest in learning how to play instruments and are starting to figure out how music can play a very important role in their lives and positively impact their academic performance in other subjects.
Our program is slowly growing as interest gains in the program, but the need for materials for the students who cannot afford them still continues.
My Project
After our successful after-school orchestra club this year, we will be starting our first orchestra CLASS next year. In order for my students to become great players and music-readers, as well as gain needed skills and knowledge in music theory and music history, we will need method books.
Preparing music for concerts and competitions is important, but it shouldn't be the only activity in the music classroom.
These method books will be used regularly to enhance musical education with practices in sight-reading, music theory, and individual instrument techniques. They will also enrich the classroom environment by giving the students a variety of fun and beneficial activities to do to change up the regular rehearsal agenda.
The band method books that are part of the class set have gone through a couple years of middle school beginners and are almost at the end of their days. These older books need replacement.
