Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine students all eagerly raising their hand to participate? I can and do, since my students love to hear themselves and be the center of attention during formal and informal classroom presentations.

My students are highly motivated to learn.

This is evident by the rapid growth in their language abilities. Three fourths of my class is made up of students, whose primarily language is Spanish. One fourth are students who serve as examples of academic English. My students show an elevated amount of enthusiasm and willingness to participate in classroom discussion and oral presentations when their have technological tools. Funding my project will provide my students with the opportunity to develop their language abilities to communicate and express themselves using academic English language through 21st century technology. They will be able to present their ideas about great leaders in social studies. We studied MLK Jr and Cesar Chavez. They will be able to recite their research like these great leaders.

My Project

A wireless PA system will further motivate all students to speak out. In our classroom the students get daily opportunities to share out their ideas using a microphone. We currently present using a microphone, which we have connected to a boom box. However, it needs to be adjusted constantly. My students complain that this causes interruptions to our oral presentations. The criterion for the presentation is designed to meet listening and speaking standards. Formalized presentations supports students ability to stand in front of class, face their audience, state name and purpose, speak clearly, stay on topic and use complete coherent sentences. It will also help students as they publicize their writing during Writer's workshop and author's chair and other classroom discussions. The other students will be able to give feedback and suggestions. Through the use of a microphone, everyone can have a voice and feel proud of their ability to communicate.

Having a PA System will help my students meet the new language common core standards and prepare them for second grade.

They will demonstrate progress and enhance their language skills in order to perform better in second grade. They will have the foundation of self confidence in reciting their ideas. They will be ready to present research, projects and their ideas coherently and effectively.
