Opposites Attract: Connecting Science and Literature
My students need Fairy Tales Problem Solving STEM Kits, CD player to listen to stories, and books on cd to make the connection between science and literature.
"Play is the highest form of research." -Albert Einstein "You can teach a student a lesson for a day, but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives." -Clay Bedford - Help me foster creative problem solving in my young scientists.
My students are enthusiastic, energetic first graders who love school.
They come from a mix of low and middle income families. They also come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds. 30% of the students are military children. They are all very attentive and look forward to every new activity we do in the classroom. They love using their creativity and are eager to come up with solutions and test their ideas. Please help us in expanding our knowledge in making connections between science and literature, one experiment at a time.
My Project
The Fairy Tales Problem Solving STEM Kits will help my engineers design happier endings to fairy tales. They will be eager to design a house that can't be blown down, construct a bridge that keeps 3 goats safe from the troll and build a chair even Goldilocks can't break! The CD player will be used to listen to the stories I ordered so they can make the connection between real literature and STEM. My hope is to help my budding scientists discover STEM in their favorite fairy tales and other stories that inspire great minds and make connections to science, technology, engineering, and math.
Donations to this project will help my students in several ways.
First, donations to this project will help my students make the connection between reading and science. These STEM projects connect authentic children's literature to build and expand science lessons. Donations to this project will also help my students become critical problem solvers, working to improve their own designs. Finally, working with peers will help my students learn to work collaboratively.
