Our middle school learners are excited about the little library garden that we have started. We are learning about various types of propagation, the nutritional values of the vegetables, and how to use them in recipes.
We have been resourceful by converting old bookshelves into garden beds.
The garden is lovely and the learners are enthusiastic. We want to grow more vegetables and expand the club. Adding additional planter beds will help our garden really soar and hopefully inspire other learners to join the fun.
Some of our long term goals involve promoting the importance of sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship; illustrating the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and accountability; learning the correlation between optimal wellness and healthy eating habits; and learning the basics of running a small business by operating a farm stand.
We are confident that our school garden will offer a sense of community and purpose for our learners while expanding problem solving skills, encouraging patience, and bolstering self-esteem.
