This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are a diverse community of learners that are learning to collaborate as musicians in an urban environment. We are fortunate to be in a school that supports the arts as part of a balanced curriculum. However, many of my students come from low income families and purchasing instruments for a student may not be their highest priority.
Enrollment in our percussion section has exploded this year.
We are over 30 in our percussion groups. With the support of our administration, we have been slowly assessing the needs of the program to keep this upward trend.
Giving our students access to more instruments will be crucial to their musical development. Having access to additional auxiliary percussion and mounting racks will allow us to have more students involved in our group and continue to expand our students musical learning.
