My Project
PELC is a public school comprised of mostly low socioeconomic status children from a small rural community. There are 21 pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms. I provide counseling services for the 420 students at our school. Most of our students have difficulty regulating their emotions and as an educator, with 27 years of teaching experience, I know that emotional regulation is a key factor that can positively impact students' academic performances.
Unfortunately, as a school counselor, I am not provided funding for the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students who do not have emotional stability at home or at school.
Therefore I am requesting much-needed emotional regulation toys or objects that can be readily used to assist our students when they need to reduce anxiety or calm down. These objects can consist of fidget spinners, fidget tubes, sensory bottles, or any other sensory, hands-on, calming toys that can provide immediate comfort. I will use the calming toys in my calming corner that I have set up in my office.
