My students need drums in their music classroom to practice reading rhythms and playing different parts at the same time as an ensemble.

My Students

How can one experience the joy and excitement of playing music with friends without enough instruments in the classroom? My students love to play drums. We have only a few drums in our music room and must share them. Students may only get one turn to play a drum each class.

My students are excited to come to music each day.

Each year, every student in our school gets the opportunity to perform in a music concert by singing and playing instruments. The students' favorite activity in music class is playing instruments, especially the drums. Students come to music twice a week for 30 minutes at a time. Our school is 45% free and reduced lunch, and about 15% minority students. We are located in a suburban school district. Our students work hard each and every day to overcome obstacles and perform well in every academic area.

My Project

My students love hands-on learning. They love to dance and play instruments during music class. We have a few drums, but not enough for the entire class to be involved in active music making at the same time. We would love to have another drum so that more students can participate in drumming at once. More drums will give my students an authentic drumming experience. They will better understand what it takes to play simple and complex rhythms, play these rhythms in small and large groups, and put on a great musical performance. Many of my students are kinesthetic learners. They will learn the concepts presented in music class more easily if they are able to touch and play an instrument.

The best way to learn about music is through hands on experiences through playing instruments.

Our music room needs another drum so our classes of 20+ children can have an authentic drumming experiences when they come to music class. My students love music and would be thrilled to have the opportunity to play a high quality instrument in small and large group settings. My students will leave elementary school with a love for music they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
