My students need the lab coats for our "operation day" of dissecting old books to identify the different types of text features.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Deaton's classroom raised $242

My Students
I teach in a low income/high poverty district where my students face many challenges inside and outside the classroom. My students have very little opportunities for learning outside the classroom and several have little parental support at home. Despite these challenges, my students are always eager to learn. I want to provide my students with all the opportunities possible. I want to give them all the chances to as many meaningful learning experiences as possible.
Despite the odds, my students love to learn new things!
They get so excited over the basic things in life.
I want to show my students that they can be successful in life by showing them that someone cares for them and their education. I want them to become more independent and "own" their education.
My Project
At our school, we are focusing on the different types of text features (index, glossary, table of contents, etc.) My students enjoy flipping through books looking for the different features, but we need to add more excitement to our lessons.
What better way to add excitement that having a Text Feature Operation Day!
My students will have on their surgeon mask, gloves, hats and lab coats. They will have their scalp ready to "dissect" old books. With the lab coats, my students will be able to "dress up" like surgeons and "operate" on old books removing (identifying) the different types of text features. These lab coats will help add entertainment and excitement to the lessons. My students will be asked to "remove" the different types of text features from these books. Not only will we be learning, but we will be enjoying our learning!
Please consider donating to help bring excitement into our classroom.
