This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a school where the children that attend our school are impoverished and a large population are in shelters, or doubled up with other families. Our school's attendance is suffering tremendously due to a variety of reasons. One main reason that our children don't come to school on a daily basis is due to dirty clothes. They often come to school in clothes that haven't been properly laundered or they are absent with the excuse that there were no clean clothes for them to wear. My Principal has purchased a washer and dryer, but we really need help with supplies like detergent and fabric softer. I believe that something as basic as clean clothing with not only boost attendance but morale and self-esteem as well. They have such creative minds and have the ability to thrive and excel, and this one small essential is holding them back.
