Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every morning my students come in my classroom with excited. This rare sparkle that I see in my student’s eyes in based on "Real - World" learning. To capture my students interest we begin each day’s lesson with technology.
The school is located in a large urban school district.
Many of my students are in a single-parent household. The majority of my students are English Language Learners. But, do not confuse these challenges with how fantastic my students truly are! They have a thirst for knowledge and parents that are counting on me to help their children become productive citizens for our community.
My Project
Though our school is nearly 60 years old, I take great pride in finding the resources my students need to succeed. I have baskets of odds and ends that allow my students to investigate science first hand. We build a garden of native plants when studying ecosystems. However, the best resource to success in our classroom is our technology. An Amazon Echo with remote would broaden my student’s learning opportunities in my classroom. One of the major struggles teachers face in the classroom is not meeting the needs of all the children when working with small groups. Now, envision the possibilities an "Alexa" would provide in a classroom, where the teacher can work closely with a small group of students while others in the room are able to get their questions answered without interrupting the group. "Alexa" can help students, individually, small groups or as a classroom resource doing research, answering specific questions, scheduling class events, timing test, reading books, or even providing the back ground music of the rain forest or ocean as students work through thematic unit. "Alexa" would become a personal assistant to each student in our class!
