This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every morning my students come in my classroom with excited. This rare sparkle that I see in my students eyes in based on "Real - World" learning. To capture my students interest we begin with a journey with my Smart Board. It is my version of the "Magic School Bus."
I teach in a Title 1 school, where nearly 100% of the students are on free and or reduced lunch.
The school is located in a large urban school district. Many of my students are in a single-parent household. The majority of my students are English Language Learners.
But, lets not confused these challenges with how fantastic they truly are! They have a thirst for knowledge and parents that are counting on me to help their children become productive citizens for our community.
My Project
Though our school is over 50 years old, I take great pride in finding the resources my students need to succeed. I have baskets of odds and ends that allow my students to investigate science first hand. We build a garden of native plants when studying ecosystems. However, the best resource to success in our classroom is the smart board. Unfortunately, the laptop that I have connected to the smart board is obsolete. The required software does not function or open properly. Therefore, we cannot use the smart board to its full capacity. A new Apple MacBook will allow my students the ability to learn through the technology from our Smartboard and online activities.
We live in a world surrounded by technology.
They need lessons that capture their attention. and bring the outside world into our classroom. I plan to use the Mac Book Pro to continue to create colorful interactive lessons that include problem solving. The Mac Book Pro will open a window to diversity and challenges. It is through this critical thinking process that they will be tomorrow's future leader.
