This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hands-on, real life adventures are the guiding force to our classroom. After a year-long study of geography, culture and the importance of finding new alternative sources of energy to help all our planet, this trip will serve as the culminating event to experience our quest of knowledge.
My students range from grades 1st through 5th, and they are part of a special program we call the Center for Academically Talented Students, nicknamed C.A.T.S.
My students are bright and curious. However, my school is a Title I school in which over 90% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. The majority of the students are minorities, mostly from Hispanic backgrounds, and all of them acquiring English as their second language.
The school is located in what is considered a mostly low middle class neighborhood. However, the majority of my students are either part of our school because they sublet or because they have parents who are employed near the school.
My Project
Students and supervising adults will use donations to participate in a hands-on real world trip to Epcot, where they can view firsthand the differences and beauty of other countries around the world.
As part of our yearlong learning endeavor, students will use Epcot's initiatives to "Green Energy" to identify the needs to create other sustainable sources of energy.
Sixty-two impoverished, bright and curious students and adults will have their wishes fulfilled, and they will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to virtually travel around the world through visiting Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida.
