Opening The Door To Electronic Learning

My students need a Samsung Galaxy tablet computer so they can fully access the enormous variety of educational electronic resources.

My Students

Just imagine all the learning possibilities when students have access to electronic resources! We are a new elementary school in an old middle school building. Budgetary restrictions meant few modifications were made, and our classroom is very cramped with no space for desktop computers.

Last year when our school opened, our students came from a building with larger rooms and more electronic access.

Because we are now teaching in former middle school rooms, the space is extremely limited. My students have no way to access electronic information. The only computer in the room is my teacher computer. Although we're thankful for that, students cannot research independently, learn with educational applications, or access the wide variety of available literature.

My Project

With this tablet computer, I will be able to download apps that will meet the individual needs of my students. Each class of children is unique, and the use of these apps will allow me to address learning needs as they arise. Students will also be able to use the web-based applications available to them such as Study Island, Brain Pop, Acuity, and IXL. This classroom practice is essential since not all of my students have access to a computer at home. Probably the thing I'm most excited about, though, is that the students will be able to instantly access electronic versions of literature. Over the years, I have purchased scores of books, but I struggle to provide a wide span of reading levels. In last year's class, I had 25% of my students reading 3 or more grade levels above third grade. This tablet computer will provide my students with appropriate reading materials at a challenging reading level.

I'm sure that everyone is aware that education budgets all over the country are being slashed.

This is especially true in Indiana. In spite of this, I am charged with preparing my students for a world in which adults need to be fluent with electronic resources. This tablet computer will give my students the ability to practice using electronic resources on a regular basis.
