Opening Our Hearts to Those in Need!

My students need a variety of items, such as bubbles, word search books, and bracelets, to help fill our "Bags of Hope" for local cancer patients.

My Students

This little crew is always ready and willing to go above and beyond, no matter what the task. They love to have fun, but they also love to learn. That is what I love about them. They never let anything stand in their way, not even the fact that more than three-fourths of our school population is considered below the poverty level. They are so determined to prosper and grow.

Their little brains are like little sponges that soak up anything and everything I can throw their way.

The more I throw the more they long for. It's amazing that their little heads can hold so much information yet yearn for more.

My Project

Every year our school encourages each grade level to complete one to two community service projects. One thing that holds very near to my heart, as I'm sure many of yours too, is cancer, which is why each year for the last six to seven years our kindergartners have put together "Bags of Hope" for our local cancer patients. Each student is given a white lunch bag, which they get to decorate. They then have the opportunity to fill it with candy and several different types of goodies, which is where these items come in to play...the bubbles, word search puzzles, bracelets, and goody box. I'm not sure who enjoys getting to decorate the bags and fill them with goodies more...the students or the teachers.

After the students have the opportunity to decorate and fill them with different goodies we send them to a local cancer center.

Year after year we have patients reaching out to us thanking us and our students for their special bags. Not only do the patients get a boost, but we do as well.
