Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The books I’m requesting will provide my English 1 students with access to engaging, age-appropriate literature that reflects their interests, cultures, and challenges. Many are reluctant readers who struggle to connect with traditional curriculum texts. A diverse classroom library gives them options—books that meet them where they are and encourage independent reading, vocabulary growth, empathy, and critical thinking. When students have choice, reading becomes less of a task and more of a meaningful experience. My goal is to build a space where students actually want to read and where every book has the potential to inspire or awaken something in them.

What makes my students special is their resilience, creativity, and untapped potential.

Many come from under-resourced backgrounds and haven’t always had access to books that reflect who they are. Still, they show up—with humor, insight, and the desire to be seen. With the right tools and support, they are capable of incredible growth. This project will help ensure that every student can find a story they connect with, and in doing so, begin to write their own.
